Nathan MacKinnon opened the scoring before adding an empty-netter and a helper as the Avalanche beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-1 on Sunday to sweep the first-round series 4-0.
Cale Makar, Nicolas Roy and Devon Toews also scored for Colorado, while Scott Wedgewood made 24 saves in the win.
The series win is just the Avs’ second since they hoisted the Cup in 2022, despite making the post-season each year.
Colorado is also the second team to sweep its first-round matchup of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, joining the Hurricanes after their Game 4 victory over the Senators on Saturday.
The Presidents’ Trophy-winning Avalanche will play the winner of Minnesota vs. Dallas — two Central Division foes — in the second round.
