The Golden State Warriors have set a date with the Phoenix Suns as they look to claim the eighth seed in the Western Conference playoffs.
Golden State eliminated the Los Angeles Clippers in Wednesday’s Play-In Tournament, riding strong performances from Steph Curry and Kristaps Porzingis — and some clutch defence from Draymond Green — to a 126-121 comeback win.
The Warriors battled back after trailing for much of the game, taking the lead in the fourth quarter, when Curry hit a clutch three with just over a minute to play.
It looked bleak for Golden State early, as it trailed by nine after the first quarter and later saw Curry go to the locker room with an apparent injury. But the two-time MVP’s return helped the Warriors deliver down the stretch and stun the Clippers.
Golden State finished the regular season as the West’s 10th seed at 37-45, needing two wins in the tournament to clinch a spot in the playoff field.
The Warriors will now face the Suns on Friday night with a first-round series against the Oklahoma City Thunder on the line.
