While football fans across Canada look forward to the upcoming 2026 season, the Canadian Football League had to take care of business pertaining to last year.
The CFL fined the Ottawa Redblacks $18,002 for exceeding the 2025 salary expenditure cap, the league announced on Friday.
The fine amount represents a “dollar-for-dollar” amount equal to the team’s overage beyond the $6,062,365 limit.
Ottawa’s violation will have no impact on the 2026 CFL Canadian Draft on Tuesday, when the Redblacks select first overall, or the opening of rookie camp (May 6) and training camp (May 10).
The Redblacks finished the 2025 season with a league-worst 4-14 record.
