The Charlotte Hornets are one step closer to their first appearance in the NBA Playoffs since 2016.
Charlotte beat the Miami Heat 127-126 in overtime in the 9-10 game of the NBA Play-In Tournament on Tuesday.
Hornets guard LaMelo Ball made the game-winning layup with less than five seconds remaining in overtime.
The Hornets will now travel to take on the loser of Wednesday’s 7-8 game between the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic on Friday.
The winner of Friday’s game will secure the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference and a first-round matchup with the No. 1 Detroit Pistons.
The now-eliminated Heat played most of Tuesday’s game without Bam Adebayo. The star forward exited in the first half with a lower-back injury after being tripped by Ball and landing hard on his back.
