The Toronto Blue Jays have determined next steps for two of their injured starting pitchers.
Trey Yesavage is scheduled to make a rehab appearance for the triple-A Buffalo Bisons on Wednesday afternoon in Rochester, N.Y, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Tuesday. The goal is for Yesavage to throw 65-70 pitches over four innings against the Washington Nationals’ triple-A affiliate.
Yesavage, who opened the season on the injured list due to a shoulder impingement, made his first two rehab starts for class-A Dunedin.
If all goes well Wednesday, Yesavage’s next start could be in the major leagues on Toronto’s current road trip.
Meanwhile, Jose Berrios (stress fracture in right elbow) will make his first rehab appearance Thursday with Dunedin against visiting Clearwater, a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate.
Berrios will be aiming for around 50 pitches over three innings.
The Blue Jays (6-9) have been hit hard by injuries to their rotation and lineup to start the season.
