To make room for Yesavage in the rotation, lefty Eric Lauer will move to the bullpen.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are pushing Dylan Cease’s next start back to Monday against the Red Sox and inserting Patrick Corbin for Sunday against the Cleveland Guardians.

After Yesavage goes on Tuesday, Max Scherzer will start on Wednesday.

Yesavage, among the post-season heroes during the Blue Jays’ World Series run, last pitched for the triple-A Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday, lasting just 2.1 innings while coughing up four runs (two earned) with four walks and two strikeouts.

He averaged 94.3 m.p.h. on 26 fastballs while mixing in 20 sliders and 18 splitters.

Yesavage began the season on the injured list due to a shoulder impingement that flared up during spring training. He had previously made two rehab appearances with class-A Dunedin and one with Buffalo.

Lauer has struggled across five appearances this season, posting a 6.75 ERA over 22.2 innings with 19 strikeouts and 12 walks.

He drew headlines recently when he said he “hated” the opener strategy after an appearance against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Blue Jays return to the field Saturday with Kevin Gausman getting the start against the Cleveland Guardians (Sportsnet, Sportsnet+ at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT).
