The Chicago Blackhawks are sticking with their long-term plan under general manager Kyle Davidson.

The team signed Davidson to a contract extension, team chairman and CEO Danny Wirtz announced on Wednesday.

Terms of the deal were not revealed.

Davidson is currently in his 16th season with the organization and his fourth as general manager after initially serving as interim general manager for one season.

He was officially named the 10th general manager in franchise history in March 2022.

“Kyle has done everything expected of him. When he got the job, his first task was to rebuild our prospect pool… He very systematically and very confidently rebuilt that to where I personally believe we have the best prospect pool in the NHL,” Wirtz said.

Since being hired, Davidson was tasked with rebuilding a prospect pool that was among the weakest at the time.

“We are committing to Kyle to continue the plan he has put in place. We feel confident in that…belief that he can continue to build a championship team,” Wirtz said.

Davidson holds a total record of 107-187-34 since being named general manager of the Blackhawks. The team is set to miss the post-season for the sixth straight year and eighth time in the last nine seasons.

Chicago sits 31st out of 32 teams across the NHL, with a 28-39-14 record and 70 points through 81 games. They end their season on Wednesday night against the San Jose Sharks.
