In what has been an up-and-down season, complete with a late head coaching change and all, a playoff berth is in the cards for the Golden Knights.

Vegas clinched its spot in the post-season by beating the Presidents’ Trophy-winner Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night, 3-2 in overtime.

The golden goal came from Jack Eichel, his 26th of the season. Mark Stone and Pavel Dorofeyev also scored for Vegas.

This will be Vegas’ fourth consecutive Stanley Cup Playoffs appearance, and the first under John Tortorella, who is behind the bench after replacing Bruce Cassidy just last week. Tortorella’s last playoff head coaching experience was in the 2019-20 season with Columbus.

Vegas sits alone atop the Pacific Division, one point ahead of the Oilers, two above the Ducks. The Golden Knights are the first team in the division to clinch a playoff spot.
