The captain appeared to suffer a lower-body injury in the second period of Game 2 on Wednesday after getting tangled with teammate Mattias Ekholm. He briefly went to the Oilers’ locker room, but returned to the bench and was able to finish the game.
When asked about it post-game, McDavid said, “I just rolled up on it a little bit. It’s fine.”
Though McDavid was able to finish the game, he did not appear to be functioning at 100 per cent, including an uncharacteristic turnover on the power play that led to a Ducks shorthanded goal.
This season’s Art Ross winner has been held without a point this post-season — the fifth time in his career that he’s been held off the scoresheet in back-to-back playoff games.
In 98 career playoff games, McDavid has 44 goals and 150 points.
Game 3 between the Oilers and Ducks is Friday at 10 p.m. ET/ 8 p.m. MT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
